What the shell is made of
Three things built into the Maax, American Whirlpool and Vita Spa tubs on the showroom floor, and worth asking about at any dealer.
Self-supporting
A thick, strong shell that holds its own shape. Maax spas do not rely on spray foam for structural support.
Steel frame
Most American Whirlpool and Vita Spa models sit on steel frames rather than wood.
Thermolock
Insulation that traps the heat coming off the pump motors and puts it back into the water. Certified by the California Energy Commission.
